Wage Increase 2020/2021: Southern Cape
Attached, please find the 2020/2021 wage schedules.
No official wage increase is recommended. For this year it has been decided to leave increases to the discretion of individual employers in consultation with their employees.
Please note that employers will have to identify the wage band of an employee by referring to that employee’s wage, in order to plot him/her on the schedule for “stamp” contribution/deduction purposes.
Categories are no longer reflected on the schedules. The examples on page 6 of the wage schedules are not linked to any specific group of employees and must be seen as examples only.
SET A: Applicable from 1 July 2020 to 30 September 2020
SET B: Applicable from 1 October 2020 to 30 June 2021
(NOTE: NO MONETARY CHANGE ON THESE NEW SCHEDULES. ONLY THE STAMP CODE HAS CHANGED.)
It has unfortunately become necessary to increase the contribution to the Sick Benefit Fund, as this Fund has been struggling. Due to the Fund facing potential depletion, it was decided to increase contributions as from 1 July 2020 to ensure the continued existence of the Sick Benefit Fund. Membership of this Fund ensures that employees claim payment for sick leave and family responsibility leave from this Fund, instead of from their employers.
Employers are also reminded that voluntary membership of the Council’s Medical Aid Fund is available to all MBA employers personally as well as to all employees in the industry.
